Our Mission:
Welcome to Miyalk Domestic and Family Violence Shelter (MDFVS), a place of empowerment and safety for victim survivors of domestic and family violence throughout East Arnhem Land for over two decades. MDFVS’ mission is to provide the highest standard of client care, confidentiality and support to all women and their children leaving all forms of violence in an environment that is non-discriminatory, participatory, and culturally safe.

We now have a rewarding opportunity available for a Manager to join MDFVS and lead the continued delivery of key specialised DFV services to women and their children in the reduction and prevention of further incidents of violence.
How You’ll Make a Difference:
As the Manager of MDFVS, you will have the rewarding opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of victim survivors, advocating self-resilience and facilitating their journey towards healing and independence. You will not only transform individual stories in your work as Manager but contribute towards breaking the cycle of violence within our community as a DFV advocate for women and their children to live free from violence.
You will achieve this by:
- Reporting directly to the governance Board, in line with funding agreements, key performance indicators, and MDFVS Constitution including providing program and practice improvement advice
- Managing the Service, including strategic and business planning, as well as high-level reporting to a variety of funding bodies
- Managing assets and Infrastructure, including identifying areas of expansion and funding opportunities
- Leading staff supervision and performance management, including forward planning for formal and informal training and development goals
- Developing integral partnerships with Yolngu organisations and families, to ensure MDFVS services and guiding practices are culturally safe

What You’ll Bring to the Team:
To be considered for this position, you should ideally have tertiary qualifications in Business Governance, Social Work, Community Services, Welfare Studies, or similar, and preferably relevant experience in similar roles. Candidates without formal qualifications in these areas will also be considered if they have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar position.
To thrive in this role, you will have highly developed communication skills that enable you to engage with a variety of stakeholders and clients with ease. Your ability to shift your focus and work alongside staff to support our clients will be critical in maintaining the shelter's mission of providing key specialised services and support. Your capacity to collaborate seamlessly with our dedicated team ensuring the holistic well-being of our community during challenging moments, will be critical in upholding our commitment to breaking the cycle of domestic and family violence and advocating for a safer, more resilient community for women and their families.
Above all else, you will be passionate about social justice and advancing the rights of women and children. Your ability to apply an intersectional lens to your practice and your commitment to creating lasting change in our community will be critical to not just your continued success at MDFVS, but to the safety of women and children throughout the East Arnhem Land region.
Additional requirements include:
- Current Working With Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or willingness to obtain prior to commencing employment
- Current valid Australian Driver’s Licence
- National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain prior to commencing employment
